5 Fun Attractions to See in North Carolina

From towering mountains to the beautiful beaches stretching along the Atlantic Ocean, North Carolina has something for everyone. The temperate climate encompassing all four seasons means anytime is a good time for a visit to this state.

Asheville

Asheville is home to the fabulous 19th century, 8,000-acre Biltmore Estate, a must-see when in this area. Visit North Carolina suggests, stroll the gorgeous gardens, then tour the mansion filled with artworks of the masters. During the holidays, the displays are awe-inspiring.

Cape Hatteras and the Outer Banks

Cape Hatteras and the Outer Banks will pull beach-lovers to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, the 19th century Bodie Island Lighthouse, and the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. Shipwreck diving sites with guided dives are also available.

Charlotte

Fayetteville

Fayetteville is where Babe Ruth slammed out his first home run as a pro. Fort Bragg, the largest military base in the world, calls this city home. The infamous 82nd Airborne Division and the Golden Knights parachute team are headquartered at Fort Bragg. Fayetteville Area Visitors Bureau explains, military history buffs will enjoy a tour through one or more of the many historic districts in Fayetteville, one of which is on Fort Bragg.

Raleigh

Raleigh is the state capital and is an extremely family-friendly city, featuring Pullen Park. Pullen Park in Raleigh was the first public park in North Carolina. The acreage for the park was donated to the city in 1887. Since that time, the city has built an amazingly diverse recreational area that attracts visitors from far and wide. According to Budget, Pullen Park is “known as one of the oldest amusement parks in America, Pullen Park is a fun destination for the whole family to enjoy. This charming park is even listed as a national historic site and includes classic rides like paddle boats, a carousel, and a miniature train.” The amusement park area features a 1911 Gustav A. Dentzel carousel with its 52 hand-carved wooden animals that thrill kids of all ages. The over 66-acre park includes an aquatic center, a café, and the internationally acclaimed Theatre in the Park, from Raleigh NC Parks and Rec.
